Thandi Modise's animal cruelty case on the court roll again

Potchefstroom – The Speaker of the House of Parliament, Thandi Modise, failed to appear before the Potchefstroom Regional Court in March where her trial was expected to begin following the gruesome discovery of starving animals on her farm in 2014. On 1 July 2020, the Potchefstroom Magistrates’ Court held an inquiry to establish whether or not the accused should be held in contempt of court.

New COVID-19 drug warning

Rustenburg – The North West Department of Health has warned the public against administering dexamethasone to COVID-19 patients and to allow medical practitioners to do their job. The Independent Community Pharmacy Association of South Africa (ICPA) is also concerned about wrong perceptions by people convinced about the drug’s ability to prevent COVID-19.

Rustenburg Police Mounted Unit arrests robbers

Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Police Mounted Unit investigated a break-in at GEM furnitures which occurred during lockdown. The manager of the shop reported that they left the premises when lockdown started on Thursday 26 March. On 10 May his security company informed him that an alarm was triggered but that they could not detect anything irregular at the premises.
