House robbery duo in court   

30 April 2021

Brits – Two suspects appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 28 April on charges of conspiracy to commit a house robbery, pointing a firearm, and the possession of an unlicensed firearm. Jonathan Mathunduluka (25) and Sifiso Manana (42), who were making their second court appearance, were arrested on 21 April during their unsuccessful attempt to rob a house in Brits.

Protestors close N4

Rustenburg – An angry mob of protestors took to the N4 at the Buffelspoort off-ramps on Thursday 29 April. Traffic had to be diverted to Mooinooi, Kroondal, and the R104. A couple of hours later, the highway was opened to both directions. The reason for the protest was unclear at the time of going to print.

Hatchlings Easter Baby Winners!

Rustenburg – The Waterfall Mall recently hosted the Little Hatchlings Easter Baby Photo Competition. The competition, which turned out to be very popular, turned up three winners in each category, based on the number of ‘likes’/ votes on Facebook, were awarded prizes. The 1st place won a R3,000 Waterfall Mall gift card, second place a R1,000 gift card and third place a R500 gift card. The mall donated R50 per entry to the Lighthouse Children’s home in Rustenburg, amounting to R7,150. Thank you, Waterfall Mall! The Waterfall Mall would like to thank all of the entrants and congratulate the nine winners in the Little Hatchlings 2021 Competition.

SAPS awards 

28 April 2021

Rustenburg – Members of the Bojanala Sub-District 2, Rustenburg, received commendations issued by the national commissioner, for outstanding work performed in the line of duty. In his presentation, major general Arthur Adams, district commissioner of the Bojanala Sub-District 2, mentioned that it is prudent for immediate commanders to appreciate the efforts of their members – thus inspiring them to go beyond the call of duty. There are committed members who stand out, who are the game changers, and step up to the plate. General Adams congratulated the members on their outstanding achievements, mentioning the fact that when, in future, members apply for higher positions within the SAPS, achievements such as these are taken into consideration and they add value to the portfolio of the prospective candidate. Commanders are encouraged to acknowledge these efforts. Congrats!

Hitchhiker caught with 3 laptops and 6 cellphones

Swartruggens – Brian Khandemiri (33) appeared before the Swartruggens Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 15 April on charges of suspected stolen property. “He was spotted hitch-hiking by Swartruggens Police officers who patrolled the N4 on Wednesday 14 April at about 03h00,” lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani said. He violated the lockdown curfew. The police stopped and searched Brian who was carrying a black schoolbag. They confiscated three laptops and six cellphones for which he could not account for. The police also asked Brian to enter a password on one of the laptops, but to no avail…

Spikes on N4 on the increase

N4 – An incident of a 58-year-old man who was ambushed, shot, and killed by robbers while removing a punctured tyre from his car, was published in Platinum Weekly’s 16 April issue. Sello Kgasi was murdered in De Wildt, near Mmakau, on Friday 2 April at about 00:55.
