Rustenburg – In a recent court ruling, the Tlhabane Regional Court handed down a life sentence on Wednesday 20 March 2024 to 29-year-old Omolemo Modise for the rape of a 15-year-old girl.

Henry Mamothame, the spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in North West, detailed the circumstances leading to Modise’s conviction. The offense occurred on 20 November 2022, in Phokeng. The victim, under the direction of her aunt, went to deliver a key to Modise’s family residence. Upon her arrival, Modise lured her inside and forcefully took her to a room where he committed the act of rape.

The victim confided in a friend at school the next day, hesitant to inform her aunt, who also serves as her guardian, due to the death of her parents. Upon learning of the incident, the friend’s parents advised the victim’s aunt, which led to the prompt reporting of the crime to the police.

This sentencing serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of such heinous actions and the justice system’s commitment to addressing them with the utmost seriousness.
