NW –Thabo Serekonyane of Madikwe Unit 1 in the North West Province made a turn at the North West Housing Corporation (NWHC) head office in Mafikeng recently in search for his title deed after a long wait.
For over 40 years, Serokonyane held on to a dream of holding a title deed in his hands. It seemed impossible, but the father of three from Madikwe was always hopeful.
To his surprise, he was presented with the original copy of his title deed. “Every time we inquired at the municipality about the title deed, we were told that the land our houses were built on belonged to a trust. It seemed impossible! This ownership secures the future for my children. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the NWHC for keeping its promise,” said an elated Serekonyane. The landmark project by the NWHC, which is in conjunction with the department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlement and Traditional Affairs, will see a total of 1,100 title deeds issued in the current financial year.
The first quarter target of 400 title deeds have already been issued to homeowners in the province.

Thabo Serekonyane was overjoyed when he received his title deed from NWHC.
