Rustenburg – A 45-year-old man was shot and seriously injured when the rivalry between two taxi associations turned violent in Rustenburg North on Tuesday 23 February at around 12.

The man, a taxi owner, was shot in the back during a heated clash between a group of people belonging to two rival associations. “He was transported to a local hospital. Following the incident, Lawrence Mazibuko and Veronica Nodongwe were arrested at the scene,” police spokesperson captain Sam Tselanyane said. “They were charged with attempted murder and conspiracy to commit a crime.” The two were each granted bail of R1,000 when they appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ court on 25 February. They are due to appear in the same court again on Monday 8 March and police are in the process of carrying out further investigations into the matter.
