Brits – A man from Brits who appeared before the court on 19 May for confession is expected to apply for bail when he makes his second court appearance on Tuesday 2 June.

Dannyboy Fistos Khumalo (38) appeared briefly before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 19 May, being charged of poisoning his two sons. Khumalo was apprehended on 18 May 2020 following the death of his 11 and 12-year old sons.

“A case was opened after the children were found dead at Valkop Plot in the vicinity of Assen near Brits,” police spokesperson brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said. “This was after the suspect had reported to the police that the victims had died after drinking rat poison. However, investigations revealed that the father had seemingly poisoned the children. He was then charged with two counts of murder.”

The reasons behind the murders form part of an investigation being carried out by the police. Condemning the incident, North West provincial commissioner lieutenant general Sello Kwena also conveyed his condolences to the family.
