Man accused of killing brother with a spade

Brits – A 42-year old man appeared before the Brits Magistrates’ Court, being accused of murdering his brother with a spade.

According to evidence gathered by the police, the man engaged in a heated quarrel with his 61-year old brother on Thursday 30 April in Letlhabile near Brits. A fight ensued and the younger brother got hold of a garden spade and allegedly stabbed his brother several times. The elder brother collapsed and died on the scene.

Police spokesperson captain Aafje Botma said: “The suspect ran away immediately after the horrific incident, but was apprehended by community members, who handed him over to the police.” Condemning the incident, North West provincial commissioner lieutenant general Sello Kwena praised the community for choosing not to take the law into their own hands.
