Platinum Weekly newspaper – A Santa Shoebox is much more than a gift. It is a message to a child that says: You matter. You are remembered. You are loved.
Since 2006, the Santa Shoebox Project has distributed more than 1.3 million personalised shoeboxes to children attending educational and care facilities across South Africa and Namibia. Each box is packed for a specific child and typically contains toiletries, school supplies, clothing, sweets, toys and a personal message of encouragement.
Getting involved is easy. Supporters can pledge a shoebox online, receive the details of a child, pack the required items and deliver the completed shoebox to an official collection point. Those who cannot pack a physical shoebox can still make a difference by sponsoring a Virtual Santa Shoebox.
Beyond the annual gift drive, the Santa Shoebox Legacy Projects continue creating lasting change through early childhood development programmes focused on build, learn and read.
