Rock-Throwing on N4
Bapong/ N4/ near Rustenburg – Two motorists were targeted in a rock-throwing incident on Monday, 7 July 2025, while driving on the N4 near Bapong — just outside Rustenburg.
Delta Dlamini, a resident of Hartbeespoort who commutes daily to work in Marikana, was driving home at around 16:05 when his vehicle was struck. “I was in the slow lane approaching the Total garage near Bapong. Two men crossed the road, so I slowed down. Then a third man standing ahead suddenly threw a rock straight at my windscreen,” Delta recalled.
The rock hit the front of his vehicle, damaging the windscreen. Another vehicle driving behind him was also struck by a rock thrown moments later. Both motorists managed to continue driving until they found a safe place to stop further down the road.
“There was only one rock thrown at each of us — but that’s all it takes,” Delta said. “To other drivers, I say: do not stop. Keep moving and pull over safely later.”
Delta said the individuals involved appeared to be adult males. He was driving alone at the time and did not observe any parked vehicles or other pedestrians nearby, aside from the men on the road.
This stretch of the N4 is a lifeline for thousands of commuters — but one wrong moment could turn deadly. Delta hopes his close call serves as a wake-up call to others: stay alert, and never stop in an unsafe area.
