Red Flag Alert - Mall Incident - Parents Warned

Rustenburg – As the festive season approaches, a local community member has raised an important concern regarding safety in our area. While dining at a restaurant in one of our local malls, the individual observed two men sitting at a nearby table. Initially, one of the men seemed to be casually using his phone. However, it soon became clear that he was secretly recording videos of local children who were also present in the mall. The most troubling aspect of this incident was that the children were not connected to the man in any way — he was not related to them, nor were they part of his group. As schools close and children spend more time out with their families, it’s important to remain extra cautious and aware of our surroundings.

In response to this, the concerned community member immediately contacted the mall management, who investigated the incident. The mall has since stated that they have stepped up security to prevent similar incidents in the future.

As we enter this busy time of year, we urge all parents and guardians to be extra vigilant:

• Never allow children to wander alone in public spaces.
• Ensure they are always accompanied by a responsible adult.
• Immediately report any suspicious behaviour to mall security or local authorities.
