RLM: R120 MILLION

for brand-new vehicles

Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) is buying more than 200 vehicles worth over R120m this financial year to replace its ageing fleet, Rustenburg mayor, councillor Mpho Khunou said at a media briefing during a handover of the first batch of 30 NP300 Nissan double cabs at the municipal offices in Rustenburg on Monday 9 July.

In an interview with Platinum Weekly, mayor Khunou said, in its next phase, the municipality will be taking another 50 new vehicles, progressively, over the next few months.

“We will be disposing off our old fleet. The new fleet to be, includes combis,” mayor Khunou added. “The allocated budget for this initiative is to address service delivery issues experienced by the community of Rustenburg.”

 Additional major interventions of the municipality in the pipeline include a R150 million project to upgrade and refurbish two electricity substations.

“We will be upgrading the Voltaire substation in Boitekong. The Bospoort waterworks will also be upgraded to double the 12 megalitres per day. Plans will be rolled out to replace ageing infrastructure in RLM’s sanitation and water conservation management programme,” mayor Khunou said.

“Our overall allocation towards maintenance has increased substantially. There is provision for R244 million in the expenditure budget for maintenance,” he said.
