Vryburg – The murder of two teenage girls in the North West Province has left the community of Stella and Vryburg in shock.

The suspect, 19-year old Zander Bylsma, was arrested on 26 May for the murder of the two girls, aged 16 and 17, whose bodies were found in the hostel of Stella High School.

According to lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani, the bodies of the two girls, Marna Engelbrecht (17) and Sharnelle Hough (16), were discovered by the hostel matron who immediately alerted the school management and the police.

Bylsma appeared before the Vryburg Magistrates’ Court on 28 May, facing two counts of murder.
Bylsma is believed to be an ex-boyfriend of one of the two girls. He was remanded in custody and the court case was postponed to Monday, 6 August 2018.

The North West provincial commissioner, lieutenant general Baile Motswenyane congratulated the investigating officer for the sterling job that they did in arresting the accused.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Marna and Sharnelle.
