Rustenburg – The police issued a stern warning on Thursday, 5 April, urging members of the community to be cautious and avoid trampling on cash-in-transit (CIT) crime scenes.

“Your life could be in jeopardy at CIT crime scenes,” said Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko, police spokesperson. Suspects use explosive material to blow up CIT vehicles, and sometimes all of the material has not yet been detonated.

In a case in September 2017, along the R510 near Rustenburg, community members stormed a CIT van after it was bombed. “Each crime scene is considered holy ground and contamination thereof is unacceptable and illegal,” Moleko added.

This CIT heist took place after at least 7 shots were fired at the vehicle by occupants in September last year.
