Rustenburg – The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in the North West Province launched the Moses Kotane Municipal Excellence Awards on Wednesday, 22 March 2017 at the Hunters Rest Protea Hotel in Rustenburg.

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Desmond Van Rooyen applauded the Local Government and Department of Human Settlements for the introduction of the Moses Kotane Municipal Excellence Awards.

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Des van Rooyen; Premier of North West Province, Supra Mahumapelo and MEC of Department of Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe flanked by Mayors who are the first recipients of the Moses Kotane Municipal Excellence Awards.

Aimed at recognising good performance and awarding innovations as well as good practices in municipalities; the Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Desmond Van Rooyen applauded the Local Government and Department of Human Settlements for introducing these awards.

“The launch of these awards gives you the opportunity to prepare and be part of the municipalities which will be receiving awards, come next year,” Van Rooyen said.

Premier Supra Mahumapelo who was part of the launch believed the awards provides a feedback mechanism that each municipality can use to assess its performance, improve the quality of life of community members through the delivery of quality services.

About six municipalities in the province including the Rustenburg Local Municipality were first recipients of the Moses Kotane Excellence Awards.

MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements Galaletsang Gaolaolwe said, “The awards are designed not only to reward the best performing municipalities and municipal representatives in a given year, but also to inspire others that are battling with various challenges, to overcome them and set an example through exceptional performance in the delivery of services to the communities in Bokone Bophirima.”
