Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Local Municipality (RLM) has taken certain key council resolutions at the first council sitting this year, held on 30 January at the Rustenburg Civic Centre.

These resolutions were discussed as a measure of RLM’s vision to become a world-class city. Key decisions include additional space for informal trading. The Rustenburg Local Council considered a report to provide additional space to accommodate informal trading, taking into consideration safety, layout and other geographical aspects of the areas identified. The additional areas were approved with the aim to encourage economic activity and reduce unemployment.

The municipal administration will follow all the necessary steps aimed at complying with the town planning scheme to make these areas available for informal trading.

Identified areas include:

  • The corner of (c/o) Dr Moroka drive and Napoleon street;
  • C/o Dr. Moroka drive and Tumagole street;
  • The open space outside the public safety offices (Traffic Department);
  • The open space between Telkom and the District Office of Social Development;
  • The open space at the c/o Brink and Bethlehem streets;
  • The triangular area next to Boitekong Mall;
