A LAMB OF LOVE
Community Rallies for Kevin’s Recovery
Rustenburg – In the wake of a devastating vehicle accident on the N4 in May 2023, the Jansen van Vuuren family’s world was turned upside down. Young Kevin Jansen van Vuuren, who survived the crash with severe injuries, continues to face a long road to recovery — but he’s not walking it alone.
To help cover Kevin’s extensive medical and therapy costs, his family launched a heartfelt lamb raffle fundraiser on 20 September 2025. Sponsored by Kevin’s grandmother, Esmay Hattingh, the raffle offered one lucky supporter the chance to win a whole lamb for just R100 a ticket.
The draw took place on Saturday 25 October 2025, with Kevin himself picking the winning ticket. “Thank you to everyone who has been supporting my recovery,” Kevin said with a determined smile.
The winner, Anri Schwim, collected her prize from Meat World Rustenburg on 1 November 2025. “It was a big surprise to hear I’d won,” Anri said. “I’ve followed Kevin’s journey for a long time and truly believe his progress is through the Lord’s grace. His family needs ongoing support, and even small monthly contributions can make a big difference.”
Kevin’s monthly expenses include R7,000 for a home carer, R10,000 for physiotherapy, R2,500 for speech therapy, and R3,500 for chronic medication. Additional medical needs — from Botox injections and neurologist visits to mobility aids and specialist consultations — continue to stretch the family’s finances.
Kevin’s biggest dream is to complete his matric next year — a goal his mother Aurelia and grandmother Esmay are determined to help him reach. “Thank you to everyone who participated and supported our fundraiser, and to my mother for sponsoring the lamb,” Aurelia said gratefully.
When Kevin heard that October’s bills had been covered thanks to the raffle, his words said it all: “Now I have to work hard to show everyone that their money is being used for a good cause.”
To support Kevin’s ongoing recovery, donations can be made directly through his mother, Aurelia, at 060 989 7090.
