Mooinooi – A cash-in-transit van was violently ambushed and bombed on Monday evening, 7 April 2025, on the N4 near Majakaneng.

Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed that the attack occurred around 18:00 when the van, carrying two security officers, was blocked off by several vehicles. An unknown number of heavily armed suspects opened fire, forcing the van to stop. The security guards were overpowered, and their firearms were stolen in the process. One guard was shot in the abdomen and rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

The suspects then used explosives to blast open the van, escaping with an undisclosed amount of cash. They fled the scene in a Mercedes Benz, a Toyota Fortuner, and a Toyota Hi-Lux. As of now, no arrests have been made.

The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) is leading the investigation, and police have launched a manhunt. Residents are urged to assist in tracking down the criminals by reporting any information, no matter how small, to SAPS Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS app.
