Rustenburg – Life Peglerae Hospital has taken a monumental step in enhancing emergency and critical care services with the grand opening of its expanded Emergency Unit and brand-new Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) on Tuesday, 11 March 2025. This major development marks a new era in healthcare accessibility and excellence for the Rustenburg community.

A new home for emergency care
The hospital’s Emergency Unit has officially moved from Kock Street to its new location at the main entrance of Life Peglerae Hospital, 173 Beyers Naude Drive. The relocation was designed to improve efficiency, patient accessibility, and overall emergency response capabilities. The newly expanded unit features:

  • 12 state-of-the-art treatment bays
  • Four fully equipped resuscitation cubicles
  • A larger triage area for faster and more effective patient evaluation

Emergency unit manager Tumi Makgamathe expressed excitement about the upgrade, saying, “This new unit is a game-changer — bigger, better, and built to provide world-class emergency care. I have no doubt it will be a tremendous success.”

Hospital manager Denise Botha reassured patients that clear signage and staff assistance would facilitate a seamless transition while ensuring uninterrupted emergency services.

Elevating critical care with the MICU
Life Peglerae Hospital’s brand-new 20-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is a game-changer for critically ill patients requiring specialised care. Equipped with cutting-edge monitoring systems, advanced ventilation support, and a highly skilled team of intensivists and nurses, the MICU is designed to provide top-tier medical attention when it matters most.
