Rustenburg – A heartfelt complaint, a swift response, and a safer sidewalk — this is how the power of community and corporate responsibility came together to address a pedestrian hazard near Life Peglerae Hospital.
On Monday, 3 February 2025, a concerned member of the public took to her private Facebook page to raise an issue regarding the sidewalk on the corner of Beyers Naudé Drive and Heystek Street, just outside Life Peglerae Hospital. According to her post, debris from ongoing construction work at the hospital had washed onto the pavement, creating a slippery and hazardous surface. Unfortunately, her daughter experienced the consequences firsthand when she slipped and ended up covered in mud on her way to school.
Attempting to find a resolution, the complainant spoke to the on-site cleaning team but was met with the response that they could not assist. Additionally, she noted that bricks had been left on the sidewalk near the hospital’s main entrance, further obstructing the pathway for pedestrians. Beyond the construction-related concerns, she also pointed out the deteriorating condition of the sidewalk past the hospital entrance, where loose rocks posed an additional danger due to poor maintenance.
Platinum Weekly reached out to Life Peglerae Hospital for a response. Hospital manager Denise Botha promptly addressed the matter, stating, “We have taken the necessary steps to restore and clean up the sidewalk, ensuring a safer and more welcoming space for everyone.”
The positive outcome was soon reflected in an updated Facebook post from the complainant, who expressed her gratitude: “Peglerae Rustenburg. Thank you to management for caring enough to pay attention to the complaint given and concern voiced. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for a clean and safe pavement walking space. You truly care, and it is noted. God bless.”
