With modern technology, fast-paced work environments, and financial pressures, stress levels seem to be rising. But was life truly easier in the past, or did people face different struggles? Share your thoughts — are we more stressed today, or just dealing with stress differently?
Yes, I believe we’re entering an era where people are more connected than ever yet increasingly socially isolated. The internet bridges vast distances in ways the human brain struggles to fully process, yet it often fails to provide genuine human connection. As a result, people feel societal pressures on an unprecedented scale while missing out on the fundamental human interactions that foster emotional wellbeing. On top of that, social media is designed to amplify aggravating or distressing topics, exposing us to a constant stream of negativity and making the world feel more overwhelming than ever before. Tiaan Groenewald, Rustenburg We’re just dealing with stress differently. Today, we’re more exposed to various coping mechanisms — whether it’s pursuing a hobby, seeking professional help, or even venting to a stranger. Society has become more accepting of open discussions about emotions, recognising that expressing feelings can significantly benefit mental and physical wellbeing. Don Kabi, Rustenburg
