Rustenburg – On Saturday 6 July 2024, Loerkop Dirt Bike Circuit at Loerkop Rustenburg hosted the JB Cross Country 2024 track day in memory of Julius Booysen. The event was not a formal race, but a day dedicated to fun and honouring the beloved Julius Booysen, who tragically lost his life on 28 October 2023. Julius was laid to rest on this cherished land, owned by his mother, Retha Maree.
The day was organised by Ruach Eventistry personnel and Loerkop Rustenburg’s Soretha Booysen, Julius’s wife. It saw an impressive turnout, with participants of all ages coming together to celebrate Julius’s passion for dirt biking.

One of the young participants, 13-year-old Divan Hattingh from Hoërskool Randburg, shared his enthusiasm, saying, “I have been riding dirt bikes for 10 years now. I would say it is my passion. Today was an exciting outing and I had a lot of fun.”

Another young rider, Zaydene Esterhuizen, 12, from Proteapark Primary School, expressed his excitement: “I have been riding bikes for 4 months now. The bike I am riding is a Kawasaki KX65. It was a fun day, and I will surely be back next year!”

The route planner, Delano Labuschagne, reflected on the event’s success: “Julius’s son, Julian and I finished this route in a matter of two days, and today was definitely a success. Next year we will be sure to go bigger.” A big thank you to the route planners Delano Labuschagne  and Anton Erichsen!
Soretha Booysen, Julius’s wife, movingly remarked, “Julius had his days, but he really made a big impact on other people’s lives. I am sure he would be so happy and proud of how today turned out. We miss him every day. Eight and a half months later, we are still struggling to move on, but we have peace”.
