Rustenburg – The community gathered at the Platinum Village Primary School on Saturday 18 May 2024 to raise awareness about autism, an event marked by heartfelt speeches, informative presentations, and captivating performances. The event aimed to shed light on autism, with Platinum Village Primary taking the initiative to inform and educate the community about this important subject. The event was unique and significant as it focused on creating awareness and fostering understanding of autism, despite the absence of autistic students at the school. This initiative underscores the school’s commitment to community engagement and inclusivity.

The event was graced by several notable individuals who shared their insights and experiences regarding autism. Tumelo Leeuw, a paediatrician and former chairperson at Autism South Africa, delivered a compelling speech that emphasised the need for greater awareness and understanding of autism. Dineo Mosiane, regional officer from Autism SA and a parent of a child with autism, shared her personal experiences and highlighted the challenges and triumphs faced by families with autistic members. 

The event concluded with an informative session by Hannaliza Swart, an educator at Rustenburg Skool Van Buitengewone Onderwys, who provided practical tips for parents on how to care for children with autism. 

The event was supported by Autism South Africa, a key organisation dedicated to autism awareness and support.
