Hartbeespoort Dam – History buffs of all ages, be sure to join the Magalies Cultural & Heritage Association on Wednesday 21 February at Meerhof Lodge for a fascinating heritage talk on author Richard Steyn’s 2015 book ‘Jan Smuts: Unafraid of Greatness’.


The talk will celebrate what Steyn calls “One of the most celebrated, brilliant yet enigmatic figures from Southern Africa... Jan Smuts.”


From his close friendship with Boer war heroes such as Koos De la Rey and Deneys Reitz, becoming a close confidant of Paul Kruger, to the roles he played in both the first and second world war... 


The book also touches on his friendship with world leader to the likes of Winston Churchill and Theodore Roosevelt. Jan Smuts had definitely lived a fascinating life. 


Not to mention his highly controversial and speculated friendship with Queen Frederica of Greece. This is a talk you will not want to miss!


Tickets are available for R50 per person and includes entrance and refreshments. Doors open at 10h00 for 10h30. Copies of the books ‘Jan Smuts: Unafraid of Greatness’ will be available to purchase and to be signed by the author.
