Sibanye’s brave battle ends in narrow defeat
Rustenburg – The Sibanye-Stillwater SAPGM Rugby Club left it all on the field in their Castle Super League opener against Louis Trichardt on Saturday, 15 February 2025. Despite a determined effort, the team fell short, suffering a 24-15 defeat.
The match was a hard-fought contest, with Christo Willemse and Martin Meyer crossing the try line to keep Sibanye in the hunt. Sakkie Smit’s accurate boot added five points to the tally, ensuring the scoreboard kept ticking. However, the challenging wet field conditions tested both teams, and Louis Trichardt ultimately capitalised on key moments to secure the win.
Head coach Joel Scherman remains positive about the season ahead, acknowledging the team’s resilience and fighting spirit. “It was a tough game, but we showed grit. The conditions were difficult, but the boys never backed down,” Scherman said. “We have a strong squad, and I urge our supporters to come out in full force for our next match.”
Sibanye-Stillwater SAPGM Rugby Club will now set their sights on their first home game of the season, facing Brakpan Rugby Club on Saturday, 22 February 2025. Fans are encouraged to pack the stands, bring the energy, and be part of the roar as Sibanye looks to bounce back stronger!
