Orbit TVET College: shaping the future, one innovation at a time
Rustenburg – Orbit TVET College students are making waves in engineering and robotics, proving that technical education is the key to future innovation. On Thursday, 30 January 2025, students proudly showcased their skills and projects during a visit from the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education.
Thabang Ndaba, a civil engineering student at Orbit TVET College in Rustenburg, shared his passion for the field: “This is my fourth year in civil engineering. There are a lot of opportunities in this field.”
Ulenda Mathebula, a former student from Orbit TVET College in Brits, returned to inspire others: “I majored in electrical engineering and earned my qualifications here three years ago.”
Robotics also took centre stage. Ponatshego Malope, an Orbit Rustenburg student, introduced the ‘Wheeled Robot’ project. “Its front lights act as sensors, allowing it to detect objects and change direction.”
The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education commended Orbit TVET College for its commitment to excellence, describing it as a role model for other technical and vocational education and training (TVET) institutions. The committee toured classrooms and facilities, recognising Orbit’s skills development initiatives and professional standards.
