Rustenburg – Four talented chess players from Bergsig Academy made all the right moves at the Interprovincial Chess Tournament, held from 3 to 5 May 2024, at Sparkling Waters Hotel in Rustenburg.

Olerato Masike delivered a masterful performance, capturing first place in his section without a single loss or draw. Boikanyo Bantseke strategically maneuvered his way to 8th place in his category, while Zandré Myburgh and Lourein Janse van Vuuren were pivotal players, leading Bojanala to an overall victory in their section.

Bergsig Academy’s competitors faced off against strong opponents from the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, Free State, and Limpopo, showing true tactical prowess on the chessboard.

Adding another feather to his cap, Zandré Myburgh was invited to the prestigious South African Closed Junior Chess Championships. He finished 17th overall, earning a national ranking of 17th in his age group of 14 years. This event is critical, as it determines the South African team for various international tournaments.
