Rustenburg – The Rustenburg Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) Academy made its mark at the prestigious National Kickboxing Tournament (SAKA/WAKO) in Potchefstroom, held from 25 to 28 April 2024. Fifteen talented students from the academy were selected to represent North West, showcasing their skill and dedication on the national stage.

The tournament, South Africa’s largest kickboxing competition, proved to be a platform for the academy to shine, securing an impressive 17 podium finishes across various categories. On the first day, Mia Theart clinched gold in the light-contact division, with Vian Brits and Jordan van Rooyen claiming silver and bronze respectively in their categories.

Day two brought further success, with Mia Theart and Laruscha Cronje dominating the points fighting category, earning gold and silver medals. However, the pinnacle of achievement came on the third day when Laruscha Cronje emerged victorious in the Champions of Champions Juniors Female category, earning a coveted gold trophy and a cash prize of R1,000.

The academy’s outstanding performance is a testament to the hard work and dedication of its students, reflecting the commitment to excellence instilled by chief instructor sensei Brian van Rooyen. Specialising in Shotokan karate and kickboxing, the Rustenburg Mixed Martial Arts Academy has been a thriving hub of martial arts in Rustenburg for two years.
