Five women arrested during Koster tuck shop burglary
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Koster – Quick-thinking police officers on patrol in Reagile prevented further criminal activity when they caught five women allegedly burglarising a local tuck shop and recovered stolen groceries before they could be taken from the scene.
The arrests took place on Wednesday, 10 June 2026, during proactive high-visibility patrols conducted by police following reports of possible threats against foreign-owned businesses and planned protest action in the area.
According to police spokesperson colonel Adéle Myburgh, officers were patrolling Reagile at approximately 08:30 when they noticed several closed shops and a group of people gathered in the street. Upon investigating, they discovered five women allegedly removing corrugated iron sheets from a tuck shop in an attempt to gain unlawful entry.
The suspects had reportedly already stolen groceries from the business when police intervened. As officers approached, the women allegedly attempted to flee, but were swiftly pursued and arrested. The stolen goods were recovered and seized as evidence.
Police further clarified that a video circulated on social media after the incident does not accurately portray what transpired. According to SAPS, the footage shows members of the public dispersing after the arrests had been made. Authorities emphasised that the situation remained calm and peaceful, with no further incidents reported. The acting provincial commissioner of North West, Ryno Naidoo, praised the officers involved for their vigilance and rapid response.
Naidoo also warned that criminal behaviour disguised as community action or public gatherings will not be tolerated and urged residents to act within the law at all times.
The five accused – Dikeledi Pule (22), Kelebogile Motshegwa (27), Kedibone Mosweetsi (29), Zanele Makgae (26) and Kedibone Kesilwe (36) – appeared in the Koster Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 11 June, on charges of burglary at business premises. They were released with a warning and are expected to appear before the same court again on 16 July 2026. Police have encouraged community members to continue reporting suspicious activities and to work with law enforcement.
