A Tragic Dawn on the R565
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – A devastating pedestrian-vehicle accident claimed a life in the early hours of Thursday, 15 January 2026, on the R565 road between Ledig and Sun City. Emergency services were dispatched at approximately 05:00 after reports that a pedestrian had been struck by a bus.
On arrival, paramedics John Penyenye and Dineo Mabote from Starmedic EMS 24/7 found a male, estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old, lying on the roadway. Despite swift response, the man was declared deceased at the scene, with injuries consistent with being struck and dragged by a bus.
Speaking on behalf of Starmedic EMS 24/7, owner John Penyenye expressed heartfelt condolences: “Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time.”
He also issued an important safety appeal to the community, especially to pedestrians who travel during low-light hours: “Please wear bright or reflective clothing at night so that you can be seen by other road users and drivers.”
