Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – The South African Police Service (SAPS), working hand in hand with the Provincial Traffic Police and supported by dedicated Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, carried out a series of late-night vehicle control points on Saturday, 29 November 2025. The joint operation formed part of the ongoing festive season safety campaign running from 23 to 29 November across the Rustenburg policing precinct.

According to SAPS spokesperson sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi, the multi-disciplinary team focused heavily on enforcing road safety laws, with particular emphasis on identifying motorists driving under the influence of alcohol. The operation aimed to curb the rising number of alcohol-related crashes often associated with year-end celebrations.

The visible blue-light presence, bolstered by CPF volunteers, ensured smooth coordination, community engagement, and additional eyes on the ground as officers worked tirelessly throughout the night.

The weekend clampdown resulted in 44 arrests, including:

  • 21 for driving under the influence of alcohol
  • 4 for drug-related offences
  • 14 for liquor-related offences
  • 3 for contravention of the Immigration Act
  • 1 for contravention of the Counterfeit Goods Act
