R1.3 Million in Stolen Vehicles and Parts Seized
Rustenburg – A high-stakes police operation in Tlhabane has led to the discovery of a sophisticated chop shop, resulting in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of stolen vehicles and car parts worth over R1.3 million.
On Friday, 7 March 2025, a multidisciplinary task force, including the Provincial Investigation Unit, Rustenburg Tactical Response Team (TRT), Public Order Police (POP), Flying Squad, and Bojanala Crime Intelligence, conducted a targeted raid that uncovered two stolen vehicles, various vehicle parts, number plates, and registration documents.
Among the recovered vehicles was a Volkswagen Crafter (22-seater) reported stolen in Makapanstad in November 2024 and a Hyundai Atos stolen in Boksburg in June 2024. Authorities also found a trove of vehicle components, including tyres, windows, car doors, and other spare parts.
The two arrested suspects, aged 42 and 18, appeared in the Bafokeng Magistrates’ Court in Tlhabane on Monday, 10 March 2025, facing charges of possession of suspected stolen motor vehicles.
Acting provincial police commissioner of North West, major general Patrick Asaneng, commended the joint effort of all police units involved, emphasising the importance of interdepartmental cooperation in tackling vehicle theft and organized crime.
Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities related to vehicle theft to local authorities.
