Kroondal/ Rustenburg – A hijacked truck was recovered within minutes after the crime, thanks to swift police action and a collaborative community effort.

According to captain Mpho Manyoba, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) were conducting Safer City Operation duties in the Rustenburg central business district (CBD) when they received an urgent lookout message. A white Toyota Dyna truck had just been stolen from a second-hand car dealership in Kroondal by an unknown suspect.

With the dealership owner in pursuit of the stolen vehicle along the R24 towards Magaliesburg, law enforcement officers sprang into action. Assisted by local farmers, they managed to intercept the truck near Maanhaarrand.

A 42-year-old Zimbabwean national, who was legally in the country, was found behind the wheel. Unable to provide a reasonable explanation for his possession of the vehicle, he was promptly arrested for theft and possession of a suspected stolen motor vehicle.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court soon.

North West acting provincial commissioner, major general Patrick Asaneng, commended the officers, the dealership owner, and the assisting farmers for their rapid and coordinated response. “This arrest highlights the power of collaboration in fighting crime. We thank everyone involved for their vigilance and commitment to justice,” he said.
