Hijackers Strike Twice in Klopper Street

Rustenburg – Klopper Street has become a hotspot for hijackings, with two violent incidents occurring within weeks of each other. 

Hijacking incident 1
The most recent incident took place on Saturday, 1 February 2025, at approximately 21:00. A man was hijacked in Klopper Street, right in front of Fields College.

“I saw a car passing by in my mirror. I thought it was just driving past, but then it stopped in my blind spot. Suddenly, I heard something move, and when I looked around, I saw someone cocking a gun and pointing it at me,” the victim recalled. “I immediately jumped out and ran — that’s when I saw the other two, also armed.”

The three hijackers were carrying two handguns and a rifle. While only one initially exited the vehicle, the other two quickly joined in when the victim fled. The assailants took his house keys, cellphone, and Toyota Bakkie before making their getaway. The victim reported the crime to Rustenburg SAPS, who are investigating the case.

Hijacking incident 2
This was not an isolated event. Another hijacking occurred on 19 December 2024, at around 20:00, also in Klopper Street.

The victim, a man, was clearing out his car when the ordeal began. “I was taking out papers and rubbish from my vehicle when suddenly, a man entered the driver’s side, gun in hand. I tried to escape, but he shoved me back and struck me on the nose with the gun, leaving me disoriented.”
Two more attackers joined in, aggressively searching the vehicle and the victim’s pockets while demanding his car keys. Thinking quickly, he lied and said the keys were inside the house. His landlord briefly witnessed the incident but shut the door and turned off the lights. The attackers eventually left in another vehicle without taking the car.

Despite sustaining injuries, the man managed to get medical attention and later reported the incident to the police. The traumatic event has forced him to move back home. “My mother always disliked where I lived. Now, I understand why.”
