Rustenburg/ Boons – On the evening of Saturday, 26 October 2024, a fire erupted at NWK Limited’s silo complex in Boons, damaging parts of the facility. Fortunately, the blaze was contained, and no grain stock was impacted, with NWK confirming that no current risk exists to stored grain supplies.

NWK Grain’s senior manager, Jaco du Rand, explained that the fire caused damage to non-critical infrastructure, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause. “Electricity supply has since been restored to the premises, and alternative plans are in place to accommodate the loading and offloading of grain. This will be implemented in a matter of days,” said Du Rand.

According to NWK, producers will not experience disruptions due to the incident or upcoming repairs.
