Rustenburg/ Ventersdorp – A multi-disciplinary team consisting of North West Provincial Crime Intelligence, Rustenburg Crime Intelligence, Rustenburg Public Order Police (POP), and the Rustenburg Flying Squad intercepted a Mercedes Benz vehicle and arrested two suspects following a business robbery in Ventersdorp on Friday 31 May 2024.

Lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani reported that three armed men entered and robbed a store of jewellery and clothes in Ventersdorp. They were seen a few minutes later fleeing the scene in a white Mercedes Benz.

Rustenburg Police were promptly informed and instructed to be on the lookout for the vehicle, which was spotted in the Rustenburg Central Business District (CBD). During the interception in Bo-Dorp, one of the suspects managed to flee with some of the stolen jewellery. However, the police successfully searched the vehicle, finding a 9mm firearm, ammunition, and clothing stolen from the store. Additionally, it was discovered that the Mercedes Benz had been stolen in Pretoria in June 2023.

The two apprehended suspects, aged 30 and 33, were arrested for business robbery, possession of suspected stolen property, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. A manhunt has been launched for the third suspect.

The suspects appeared before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 3 June 2024.
