Mooinooi – The Vala Umgodi operation continues to fight illicit mining. Two suspects were arrested on Friday evening, 24 May 2024. Colonel Adéle Myburgh reported that information received led a team from the Johannesburg Tactical Response Team (TRT) to Mooinooi, where it was alleged that explosives were being sold on the R556 road, close to Segwaelane Village.

The suspects, aged 35 and 53, were found in possession of detonating cord and detonators. They were arrested and were set to appear before the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 May 2024, facing charges of illegal possession and supply of explosives.
