Rustenburg/ Phokeng – The Phokeng Police would like to warn community members about hijackings that are taking place at Rietvlei on the R565, Phokeng.

On Friday, 25 August, at about 14h00, a 54-year old man was driving to Rietvlei in a Toyota Tazz. He was stopped by two males at the intersection, who quickly got inside his vehicle. He was pointed with a firearm and instructed to drive into the veld.

They tied him up, assaulted him and ordered him to give them all his belongings, including his bank card. They instructed him to give his pin code and fled the scene with his car. The suspects then allegedly withdrew all the money from his bank account.

In another incident on the same day, a man aged 25 was driving in his white Toyota Hilux on the same road and was also hijacked. Two suspects took his belongings. These two similar incidents occurred at different times.

“The community is urged to be vigilant. Always make sure your car windows are closed, doors are locked and watch out for suspicious people, especially at intersections. Do not offer lifts to unknown persons,” sergeant Ofentse Mokgani, police spokesperson, said.
