Rustenburg – The Rustenburg police confiscated over a hundred-thousand-rand worth of cell phones and tablets, including an amount of about R100 000 from two Pakistan nationals, who are alleged to be involved in a cell phone theft ring in and around Rustenburg.

The arrest follows a robbery at a cell phone shop in Safarituine on Wednesday 6 June. Acting on information, the police arrested two Pakistan nationals at their shop on Saturday 9 June and found them in possession of the stolen items and cash.

Speaking to Platinum Weekly, sergeant Ofentse Mokgadi, police spokesperson, said the owner of the shop was robbed of 25 cell phones and R30 000 cash.

Mokgadi commended his three colleagues, lieutenant colonel Oupa Pule, captain Patrick Murunwa and captain Kabelo Sekanka, for working around the clock to bring the ring to book.

“We request that you keep documents, proving ownership of your items, at all times. You need this to claim stolen items,” Mokgadi said.

In total, the two Pakistan suspects were arrested for stolen items: 102 cell phones, 28 tablets, 7 GPS gadgets and one video camera.
