Rustenburg – Three people died when the driver of the car they were travelling in, collided with a cement truck on the N4 near the Waterfall Mall on Friday evening, 27 April.

According to captain Elsabè Augoustides, police spokesperson, the driver of an Audi driving to Taung, missed the Zeerust onramp and proceeded to take the Pretoria N4 onramp.

“The driver then tried to make a U-turn. Unfortunately, an approaching cement truck crashed into their vehicle,” captain Augoustides said.

Three people including the driver of the car died and three survivors were transported to hospital. One of the survivors, a 4-month pregnant woman has been admitted at a local hospital’s ICU unit. It is with great sadness that we report that she has lost her baby.

“Judging by the skid marks on the road, the 60-year old truck driver, Joseph Baloyi tried to apply brakes, but to no avail. A case of culpable homicide is being investigated,” captain Augoustides said.

We extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
