Rustenburg – A choir camp at the Silver Cloud Game Reserve just outside of Bela-Bela led to a freak accident on Saturday, 17 February at around 15h30 which claimed the life of grade 4 learner, Aiodhon van Zyl of Laerskool Vastrap in Rustenburg.

Aiodhon apparently fell out of a slow-moving mini school bus onto the dirt road.

A teacher from the school, with all necessary licences and authorization, was driving the bus at the time of the accident. Paramedics were called to the scene and upon arrival they discovered that the child was not breathing and no pulse could be detected. The child had sustained injuries to his head, chest and pelvic area.

Counsellors have been supporting the pupils and classmates of Aiodhon as they are struggling to come to terms with the loss.

“The exact circumstances of this tragedy are being investigated. Further queries should be directed to the Department of Education,” said Ruurd van der Wal, chairman of Laerskool Vastrap’s governing body.

The funeral service for Aiodhon will be held at the NHK Tuine in Cukoo Avenue, Safari Gardens, Rustenburg on Friday, 23 February at 14h00. Our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Aiodhon.
