RAIN HAS ITS OWN SPECIAL SCENT…

That fresh, earthy smell when rain falls on dry ground has a name: petrichor. The word was coined by Australian scientists in 1964. The scent develops when raindrops release plant oils and compounds from the soil into the air. One of these compounds, called geosmin, is produced by soil-dwelling microorganisms – and the human nose is remarkably sensitive to it. So, when someone says they can smell the rain, there is real science behind it!

THE BOKS’ PERFECT FINAL RECORD!

THE BOKS’ PERFECT FINAL RECORD!

The Springboks have reached four Rugby World Cup finals – and won every one! South Africa lifted the Webb Ellis Cup in 1995, 2007, 2019 and 2023, becoming the first nation to claim four men’s world titles. Even more impressive: the Boks have won half of the eight World Cup tournaments in which they have competed. Their current form against the All Blacks also gives supporters reason to smile: following victories in Cape Town and Johannesburg, the Boks lead the 2026 four-Test series 2–1, with one match remaining.
