Mud, mountains and Rustenburg grit

Gregg Taylor and Sharon O’Reilly braved the cold and mud to complete the Karoo to Coast.
Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Mountains, mud and chilly conditions put Rustenburg Cycling Club (RCC) members to the test as they tackled two memorable mountain-bike events over Heritage week.
Louis Bredell and Conrad Schoeman took on the demanding five-day Cape Pioneer, held from 22 to 26 September 2026. Traversing rugged terrain through the Garden Route and Klein Karoo, the pair comfortably completed all five stages – an achievement worth celebrating!
On Sunday 27 September, four RCC cyclists tackled the annual Karoo to Coast from Uniondale to Knysna via Prince Alfred’s Pass. The revised 89 km route offered spectacular scenery, but recent rains added an extra helping of mud to the challenge. Riaan and Susan Becker, Sharon O’Reilly and Gregg Taylor braved the cold and muddy conditions to complete the event, giving the club another four reasons to cheer.
Congratulations to all six riders for flying Rustenburg’s flag with determination and pedal power!
