Three in court over R1.3 million in alleged municipal losses

Platinum Weekly newspaper | Rustenburg – Three people appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 22 September 2026, on charges of fraud, money laundering and theft linked to the Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.

According to Hawks spokesperson warrant officer Nkosinathi Ndlovu, a municipal audit revealed that more than R1.3 million had allegedly been transferred from the municipality’s bank account without authorisation or supporting documents.

The matter was referred to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation unit. Vincent Mkhwanazi (38), Sibusiso Kunene (44) and Thembeka Zukula (44) were arrested on Sunday, 20 September.

Each was granted bail of R1,000. The case was postponed to 30 November 2026 to allow for the arrest of additional accused. The allegations have yet to be tested in court.
