Rustenburg - On Friday 3 November 2023, Boshoek Primary School hosted a spelling contest that pitted Grade 4 against Grade 5, and Grade 6 against Grade 7, with a total of 65 contestants participating.

In collaboration with the Moamogoe Foundation, this event aimed to champion literacy by setting a positive goal for learners, enhancing their cognitive and vocabulary skills, and providing a platform to showcase their hard work. The first prize winner was awarded a fully paid two-night stay at Sun City Resort, complete with breakfast and family access to The Valley of Waves.

The first prize winner also received the prestigious Spelling Bee Trophy, a medal, a generous R1,500 cash prize, books, and a special lunch with classmates, all courtesy of the Moamogoe Foundation. The second prize consisted of a medal, a R500 cash prize, and books. The third prize included a medal, a R300 cash prize, and books as well. These prizes were the same for winners in the Grade 4 vs Grade 5, and Grade 6 vs Grade 7 categories.

The atmosphere was electrifying, with the audience kept on the edges of their seats as contestants vied for the top positions. From 08:00, the Bumble Bees from Grades 4 and 5 eliminated each other until the last three remained at 11:00.

From 11:00 to 12:00, it became even more nerve-wracking as suspense hovered in the hall while Grade 6 contested with Grade 7, leaving three learners standing after a five-round battle.
The event was an exquisite success thanks to an excellent panel of judges, team managers, guests, the event announcer, the student governing body (SGB), and the principal, Mr Mokgoatlheng.
