Mogwase – A 27-year-old murder suspect was arrested in Mogwase while boarding a taxi to Rustenburg on Friday 17 December.

He was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man with a knife in the neck during a fight. The victim succumbed to his wounds and was certified dead upon arrival at a local hospital.

Police spokesperson lieutenant colonel Amanda Funani said the suspect, his girlfriend and the victim were spotted at a local tavern the night before until the early morning hours of 17 December.

Said Funani: “The trio left the tavern and went to the suspect’s house where a fight allegedly ensued between the victim and the suspect.

During the fight, the suspect reportedly drew a knife and stabbed the victim, after which he fled the scene with his girlfriend.”

Funani added that the victim was seen by a passer-by who alerted the police.

“We managed to trace the suspect and his girlfriend as they were about to board a taxi to Rustenburg,” Funani concluded. Investigations continue.
