Rustenburg – The latest ‘eviction’ or rather ‘destruction of recently erected zinc structures’ took place on Wednesday 10 November.

Bulldozers were sent in to portion 1 of the farm Rietvlei 271, Rustenburg (along the N4 close to Ananda), to flatten the latest result of activities at this spot.

It has become a popular get-together spot, or team-building session...? ...where people from various provinces in South Africa flock to regularly.

The Rustenburg Local Municipality’s Public Safety Directorate in collaboration with South African Police Service (SAPS), dispersed the people and started bulldozing the structures following the previous eviction order which was granted on 3 October and effected on 6 October, just for the structures to be erected again the very same evening.

The illegal occupation of this land has been an ongoing struggle since 2016 and it has been a continuous back and forth.

In a press release by the RLM spokesperson Thapelo Matebesi said: “The Municipality will continue to execute the High Court order until the rule of law is upheld.”

Democratic Alliance ward 16 councillor Johan Cronje thanked the RLM for their cooperation and for continuing to ensure that the rule of law is being upheld. He also commended them for acting in the interest of the people of Donkerhoek and Rietvlei.

Bulldozers were once again sent to demolish the illegal structures.
