NW – The advantages of commercialising cannabis came under discussion during a webinar hosted by the North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development on Tuesday 28 September.

The webinar, which was held in Mahikeng, sought to create a shared vision – about the commercialisation of the drug – among industry, government and labour.

MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development Desbo Mohono said the webinar became necessary after various interest groups had asked her for a platform to discuss issues related to the legalisation of cannabis.

It is estimated that South Africa could be making around R28 billion from the informal trade of cannabis. The MEC said the commercialisation masterplan would result in income generated from the sector benefiting communities.
