The fire that was reported at around 18:00 on Tuesday 21 September, and destroyed five vehicles before the firefighters got the fire under control.

“The municipality’s fire and emergency services department managed to extinguish the fire within 45 minutes, preventing it from spreading,” Rustenburg Local Municipality spokesperson Thapelo

When Platinum Weekly visited the traffic department offices on Thursday 23 September, it was business as usual. Long, winding queues of people waiting patiently to renew their licenses.

The vehicles were about to be auctioned. How the fire started is not yet known, but a case of arson was opened.
