Rustenburg – Eyewitnesses told Platinum Weekly that six police vehicles – four vans and two cars – arrived at the Safari Gardens Complex at around 18:00 on Wednesday 1 September.

Apparently, several police officers got out of their vehicles and rushed into the SPAR, returning with three men in cuffs.

“They apprehended three of them. A fourth suspect tried to run away but the police caught up with him and apprehended him,” the eyewitness told Platinum Weekly.

“We asked them (the police) what was going on and they told us that they were after suspects implicated in bank card fraud,” we were told.

The white VW Polo the suspects were travelling in was reportedly seized by police.

In a separate incident, a 39-year-old man was arrested on Monday 6 September, for fraud and illegal possession of more than 300 bank cards.

Four men were arrested at the Safari Gardens Complex, three of them inside the Safari SUPERSPAR.
