Koster – A big pile of trash was dumped along the road between Buffelshoek and Rainbow Farms (Olifantsnek).

Building materials, sand, broken brooms, cardboard boxes, vehicle number plates, and plastic bottles and bags are among the heap of rubbish dumped. The number plates are from the Free State while an auction board – with the address xx First Avenue, Olifantsnek – could be a tell-tale of the origin of the garbage.

“Disposal of refuse on the side of the road is prohibited in terms of the municipal Integrated Waste Management Plan (IWMP) of 2012 and the National Environmental Management: Waste Act 58 of 2008 as well as the North West provincial by-law,”

Kgetlengrivier Local Municipality spokesperson Sannah Magakgala said. For this sort of illegal dumping, you could be fined R2,500.

Making it someone else’s problem.
